Solution Development
Conducted a root-cause analysis to determine the root issue. The root issue is limited real estate and resources at hospitals.
Resource allocation and prioritization is the key to reducing wait times
Conducted stakeholder interview with an ER nurse to learn how the ER is run, and understand their experience with wait times
After researching, stakeholder interviews and determining the main issue we developed a system-level solution Rapid Relief!
02 Solution
Rapid Relief

is an accelerated zone within the ER that specializes in treating acute, easily identifiable and treatable conditions, such as broken bones. This zone has its own resources and staff with the sole purpose of treating patients rapidly.
Instead of waiting for your healthcare, your healthcare is waiting for you.

Currently 20% of all ED visits are classified as family practice sensitive conditions, resulting in immediate discharge from the department. With the RapidRelief Unit, the system now transitions to efficiently manage these cases.

Acute conditions require fewer resources and less time to treat; therefore, the RapidRelief zone will only need limited resources, such as equipment found in a first responders kit. This zone will be fast paced as patients will be discharged immediately after being treated.
On the other hand, the standard emergency room zone will be for critical patients, who need further care and assessments, which will also be moving faster.
