3D-Printed Prosthetic Hand

Problem Space:

Developing countries lack access to affordable prosthetics, in fact, less than 20% of people actually receive the prosthetics they need for an adequate life. I was inspired to develop a solution to this issue by designing and building an affordable prosthetic from scratch.

The project involved conducting design-related research, sketching, 3D modeling in Autodesk Inventor, 3D-printing, and assembling the prosthetic. I learned the full iterative design process, problem-solving, and how to rapidly prototype. The prosthetic is wrist-driven and designed specifically for partial-hand amputees. It was efficiently designed within 5 months in under 15 parts with a fully functional finger actuation mechanism.
